Budapest: 100% Dedicated Gluten-Free Restaurants & Bakeries

Budapest is a must-visit for the gluten-free world traveler. It is a booming tourist destination with history, culture, and a lively restaurant scene. You will fall in love with this beautiful city along the Danube River.

Even better, for those of us on a gluten-free diet, Budapest is a smorgasbord of safe and delicious food. It ranks up there with Rome, Italy, and New York City in the United States.

In Budapest, you can dine at a different restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week. No repeats. All dedicated gluten-free.

Check out this Google Map, covered with yellow pins marking dedicated gluten-free restaurants and bakeries throughout Budapest.

Like you and me, often the owners of these bakeries and restaurants stumbled into the gluten-free world when they personally struggled with gluten intolerance or a child was diagnosed with celiac disease. You’ll find that many are family-owned businesses. The chefs and bakers are passionate about making safe, high-quality, gluten-free food that is as good as traditional versions.

Many of these dedicated restaurants also cater to other allergies or dietary restrictions. In addition to being gluten-free, some are completely vegan, dairy-free, soy-free, or sugar-free. Others are only dedicated gluten-free, but still provide options for additional dietary needs. Special diet offerings are noted under each restaurant’s name below.

You’ll see a few important Hungarian words pop up frequently in these restaurant names:

  • Gluténmentes = Gluten-free
  • Pékség = Bakery
  • Étterem = Restaurant

While I recommend in-person visits to as many of these wonderful gluten-free establishments as possible, many offer delivery, if you can’t make it there. Popular delivery apps/websites in Hungary are Food Panda and Wolt.

You will love eating your way through this list of dedicated gluten-free Budapest restaurants! For my personal reviews of some of these restaurants and bakeries, as well as what to do and where to stay in Budapest, visit my Gluten-Free Guide to Budapest.
